Petr Prichystal

Born in 1979 in Karlsbad (Czech Republic)

In his childhood, Petr already had a lot of contacts with plastic arts through his parents, the grafic artist Miroslav Prichystal, his mother Jitka Prichystalova and their friends. This atmosphere lead him to the "SOU.keramicke Karlovy Vary -Stara Role"  where he could discover different plastic art techniques and their laws.

From 1993 until 1997 he made a hand-made ceramic painting-apprenticeship in Karlsbad. Under the guidance of the master Ramon Siroky: he learned the special technique of the decorative painting in the Pirkenhammer manufacture in Brezova (Karlsbad).

After the apprenticeship, he worked as a decorative painter in this manufacture. His duty to copy the repliques of the old german Master gave him the possibility to improve his techniques, knowledge and perception as well as to enlarge his horizon. Unfortunately,  he could not work for a long time in this fabric because it had financial difficulties, which lead him to a concurrent, a porcelain-factory (Leander Loucka 1946 GmbH) where he worked as a painter and also developed new patterns. Throughout he also appropriate himself knowledges about varied spritz techniques.

After his military service in Marianske Lazne (Czech Republic), he worked for a short time as a glasspainter in the Moser Glassfactory , in the Porcelaine hotel Dvory and finally in Moritz Zdekauer Porcelainfactory where he also used to handpaint and decorate.

During these years he was often stimulated by numerous designers, artists and experienced craftsmen. Subsequentely he also participated to many artists symposium. Petr Prichystal could gain a wide experience regarding his manual skills and knowledge. He could develop his own styles under the influence of his colleges.

You still can find various notes of these rich years in his works, in which he freely flows between various techniques and themes.

Through the combination of different styles as well as through his humoristic and playfull dealings with materials and techniques, Petr creates abstract as well as classic artworks, such as the representation of a surreal impression or the telling of a bizarre or absurd situation. He says that every subject needs a different technique. His repertoire includes painting, chinapainting on tiles and dishes, reliefs, the upcycling of second hand objects in porcelain as well as wall decorations in bathrooms and kitchens.

In 2005 Petr moved to Berlin because the economic situation in the porcelain-industry was always getting worst. He still works and lives there.

His love to the Karlsbad region, to Kaolin and its rich historical tradition is still present, so that Petr often gets back to his roots and his original area of activity.
